Frequently Asked Questions

Who can benefit from a bike fit?

Generally, if you are serious enough to clip into a bike, you will benefit from a bike fit. Whether you are a professional or recreational rider, getting the proper bike fit is an effective yet economical way to improve performance, comfort and efficiency.

Why get fit with Retül 3D motion capture technology?

The best way to analyze a rider’s efficiency is to observe and measure the rider while he or she is pedaling the bike. Retül 3D motion capture technology simultaneously measures three planes of movement on the rider as he or she is in motion. Retül averages the rider’s pedal strokes to provide a comprehensive data set reflecting the rider’s movements. Only at this point can a bike fit expert properly evaluate changes to a rider’s position. Attempts to analyze the rider in a static position, or only in two dimensions, will not provide data at the same level of accuracy as 3D motion capture.

How long does it take to adapt to the changes?

Everyone responds to change differently. Some individuals are able to absorb changes quickly and others take time to adapt. I have had many riders adapt immediately and others taking up to 25 hours on the bike. On average, based on rider feedback, most adapt to the changes with 4-12 hours of riding.

Can I bring multiple bikes?

Yes, multiple bikes are welcome. Many of our clients bring both their road bike and time trial bikes.

What if I want to transfer my fit to another bike/ bikes?

The software establishes a file for each rider, and within that file, the bike and final fit data is stored by each bike the rider would like to be fit to. The client receives a printed report of the final fit, so with an understanding of frame geometry differences and proper measuring tools, the cyclist can duplicate the numbers themselves on a new bike, keeping in mind that different types of riding may require different rider positions.

How long does a dynamic bike fit take?

Expect to spend  2 – 3 hours for a full dynamic fit. On average, we take between 2.5 – 3 hours. Depending on the individual rider and their equipment, it can take a little more time or a little less.

What are the benefits of a proper bike fit?

A proper bike fit is essential for injury prevention and maximized efficiency. An optimal position on the bike will allow for greater comfort and enjoyment while riding. All bodies are different and your position on the bike should reflect your biomechanics.

I am interested in buying a new bike. Do you offer bike fit services when I don’t have a bike yet?

Yes. We have the Retul Muve Fit Bike which is fully adjustable to accommodate most riders. We can then take the data we collect during the fit to review appropriate frames from a variety of manufacturers. Cycling shorts and cycling shoes are required to do a Muve Fit.

Why should I get a Dynamic 3D Retül fit?

Primarily, because the fit is dynamic, not static. The data sample is taken during an active pedaling cycle and gives you the most information about just what is happening while you are in motion, and in 3D, so we get both vertical and lateral movement at the same time.

I have a friend that really needs a fit. Do you offer gift certificates for a fit?

I have had a fit. When should I get fit again?

Cycling is a life long sport. As our bodies change, so does our bike fit. For example, significant changes in flexibility, core strength, body weight can influence your position on the bike. Over the years, I have been able to see many riders more than once for one reason or another. I find it interesting to see the change in the rider through fitness or equipment changes.
